Interview betwen Ricky Aiello (www.twitter.com/rickyaiello) and Ella Goldsmith (www.twitter.com/ella_goldsmith)

Hey Ricky. So first off, describe your sound in five words or less. What inspires you to get into the writing process?
Hmm lets see, my sound in five words or less…. “Indie, acoustic pop rock.?” I guess that works.

Three items you couldn’t live without?

Probably my blackberry, mac products, and my guitar.

If I went through your “recently played” playlist, what would I find?
Copeland, Underoath, Lydia, Oceana, Alive in Wild Paint, Mae, Sky Eats Airplane, Vanna, The Rise Of Science, Oh Sleeper and my guilty pleasure Swimming With Dolphins :p.

Design your dream tour. Five band maximum.
Oceana, Underoath, Copeland, Lydia, Sky eats airplane. That would be sooo sweet.

You’re from the infamous Orange County (New York, that is). How would you describe the area’s music scene?
Whats there to say about the good ol’ OCNY music scene. There are tons of venues scattered all over the place, and for the most part a lot of the OCNY bands know each other or at least know of each other. Its not too hard for bands to get started in the OCNY music scene because shows really arent that hard to get on, as long as you can sell a massive amount of tickets. But all in all, the scene out here really helps bands flourish because of all the kids that come out to shows to support, but there are always the occasional haters so you gotta watch out for them and keep doin your thingg haha. ♥ OCNY

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
I would like to see myself touring by myself or with my new band that is recording our 5 song EP ;). But you never know whats gonna happen, so ill leave it at that.

What’s the best part, for you, about being on stage?
Your more or less in control of everyone watching you. While your up there, you can totally make or break someones day by saying the right or wrong things. But yeah, my favorite part is definatly being in control of the crowd.

If you could give another musician the boot and take their place in a band, who would you pick?
This is a tough one, cause im sure if this happened the fans would not be too stoked haha but i would want to replace Brennan from Oceana (nothing against Brennan, he’s one of my most influential vocalists at the moment) because there music is super sweet.

Biggest compliment you’ve ever gotten on your music?

At a show once a group of girls told me “You inspire us.”
Then they like legit just walked away. Its the compliments like that make me really happy because its not like every other comment I get on my music, yaaknow? I like originality!

How far would you drive to see an incredibly good band?
As far as I’d have to! I love road trips :) haha.

What are two arists that you think the world should be listening to?
Copeland and Oceana.

One thing you’d never want to get from a fan?
A limb. hahah.

What’s something that would make or break your opinion of a musician?

Attitude. You get farther in life being humble anyways, in my opinion.

What’s a piece of advice you know now that you wish you knew in 2009?
To buy gold stocks!

Any hidden talents?
Ummm, everytime i make a fist all my knuckles crack! But i dont know if you would call that a “talent” but i like to think it is.

What would be your ideal matchup for this year’s superbowl?

Im not really into football that much anymore, but id have to say the Jets and whoever else.

How do you feel about Taylor Swift being the #1 most downloaded artist of the year, over Lady Gaga and Beyonce?
Good for her! I’m not too big of a fan of any of them but It makes me happy that such a young girl is completely owning the mainstream music scene. Lady Gaga and Beyonce just have to up their game I guess.

What are five things you need to do before you die?
Sky dive, drive along the the beach watching the sunset while listening to Switchfoot’s “Dare You to Move” (my friend Pat Capp gave me the idea :p), play a show in front of a thousand people, fall in love and to figure out what I’ve been put on this earth for!

What can the world expect from you in 2010?

My new band “Buildings” :) Were gonna have a myspace up soon and I’ve been in the studio for the past month recording all my vocal parts for our five song EP coming in Feb. 2010!. So stay tuned for that!
And in the meantime follow me on twitter so you’ll know all the latest info when it comes to my and my bands music!
