Recommended Audio Favorite: “Miss Innocent” off “The World Can Wait”

Pop-rock trio Lannen Fall has it all: a creative (yet catchy) sound, an impressive material list, and a solid national fan base. Representing Boston, Massachusetts, the band can frequently be seen out on regional tours along the east coast (good for us) playing favorites off of their three releases “The Holly-EP”, “Stories”, and “The World Can Wait-EP”, including “Miss Innocent” (one of Matt’s faves) and “Holly Hospital”. What’s most impressive about Lannen Fall is the big sound that stems from such a small group, something not commonly seen in the scene today that hosts bands composed of sometimes double that. The band has not made their way by being well-groomed conformists in an ever-shallow music world, which makes their music even more legitimate. On top of this, their achievements have been results of genuine hard work and dedication towards their field, work that has led them to tour with bands such as The Scene and Sparks the Rescue (see myspace.com/lannenfall for those tour dates). I personally recommend you go check out their newest release on itunes “The World Can Wait-EP” as well as “My Sweet Pessimist”, off of “The Holly-EP”. If that song does not change you for the better, I’m not sure what will.

Interview with Matt Epstein(FYS) and Jay Tagg(Lannen Fall)

Hey guys. So to start off, where are you from?

Hey! Our band is based out of Boston, MA.  Individually, I (Jay) am from Weymouth, MA.  Matt is from Boxford, MA.  Ryan is from Arlington, VT.  Danny is from Queens, NY, and Kyle is from Long Island, NY.

 
So we know Lannen Fall is now a 3 piece. Any ideas on who the new bassist will be? 

We’ve had a whole bunch of tryouts. We’re working with this guy now from Long Island named Kyle. He’s an awesome dude and will be playing with us at least for the rest of 2009. And we also added a new singer as of recent to fill in for me while I let some nodules on my vocal chords heal. (see the Lannen Fall blog for details on that!) Depending on how it works out we may make it a permanent thing and experiment with the dual lead vocalist thing (Mayday parade, Taking back sunday). The singer’s name is Danny and he used to sing for BEDlight for BlueEYES.
  
You guys has some rad merch. Have you ever personally worn the booty shorts?

What’s the weirdest gift a fan has given you? 

I guess we haven’t gotten any weird gifts. We’ve been given cards, drawings, letters and tons of food! We love it though!
  
Matt, I heard your mom said she could drink you under the table. Have you accepted this challenge yet? (If so, who won?) 

Matt: I thought about it, but i didn’t want to embarrass her. If she’s persistent though, I’ll have to make it happen and will report back.
  
Can you name a few bands that personally influence each of you? 

We listen to a lot of different things. Rock, pop, blues, punk, metal. A band we all dig is Jimmy Eat World. I think we can put on any record by them and just let it play for a van ride with no complaints. 

 
You guys have toured down South a lot. How does is it different from touring up north?  

We love the south. The weather is great, the food is even better! We love finding those little BBQ shacks on the side of the road. You don’t see that up north! More kids seem to come out to shows down there so we always have a good time.

 
What’s the story behind Miss Innocent? 

Everyone knows a little Miss Innocent. It wasn’t based on a specific person so no “story,” I guess, but you could probably apply it easily to someone you know. We were in the mood to write a super catchy pop song while still having big crunchy guitars and that’s how it came out.

Your new CD, The World Can Wait, is available in stores now. Why should people go out and buy it?  

You can buy it at Hot Topic (see our myspace for the locations) or online at Smartpunk.com.  Buy it because it’s a pure rock/pop record. We’re not auto-tuned out and overloaded with samples. We wrote 6 songs the most natural way we know to write songs and I think if you like some of the stuff that’s popular today, you will dig it.  And it’s only $5!

 
Who would you rather spend a year on a tour bus with: Jeffree Star or Brokencyde? 

We’d have to share a bus? No, thank you!
  
If I was a label scout and was thinking about signing Lannen Fall what would you guys do to impress me besides rocking the fuck out? 
We wouldn’t really do anything specific. We’d rock the fuck out for sure. But aside from that, we’d do our best to show you who we are. I think our songs are good, and we have a sound that could easily fit into what’s popular while still not sacrificing songwriting integrity to make that happen. Or we’d have Danny dance for you. 

You guys will be heading out this fall with some sick bands. Wanna name a few?  

We’re doing a few days with the Scenic who we’ve toured with before. Amazing band and amazing dudes. Another band called Sparks the Rescue who are old friends of ours from our weekend road trips up to Maine and then a band we haven’t played with yet called the Status—but i hear great things! After that we’re doing a 2 month run with a Florida band called Pathway to Providence.
